Job Summary

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for leading the end-to-end supply chain organization, including Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Supplier Operations, Strategic Sourcing, and Compliance.

This role serves as the senior leader responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and continuously improving the company’s supply chain strategy, processes, capabilities, systems, and organizational structure.

The Director of Supply Chain works closely with Executive Leadership, Finance, Product Development, Marketing, Operations, Sales, Retail, and Supplier partners to ensure inventory availability, operational efficiency, supplier performance, compliance, profitability, and long-term scalability.

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for balancing service levels, inventory investment, supply continuity, supplier performance, business growth requirements, and organizational development while creating a scalable supply chain organization capable of supporting future expansion.

The Director of Supply Chain is ultimately responsible for ensuring the organization operates from a single Plan of Record that aligns demand, supply, inventory, supplier readiness, financial objectives, and execution priorities across the business.

 


Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain Strategy

  • Develop and execute the company’s end-to-end supply chain strategy.
  • Align supply chain objectives with overall business goals.
  • Build scalable supply chain capabilities that support future growth.
  • Develop long-term roadmaps for planning, sourcing, supplier operations, compliance, and inventory management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service levels, and profitability.


Integrated Business Planning (IBP)

  • Lead the company’s Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process.
  • Establish planning governance, decision-making frameworks, and business reviews.
  • Ensure alignment between demand, supply, inventory, financial, and operational objectives.
  • Facilitate executive decision-making regarding inventory, capacity, supply risks, and growth initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement of planning maturity.
  • Establish and maintain a single Plan of Record across demand, supply, inventory, and financial objectives.
  • Ensure all business functions operate from a common set of assumptions and approved plans.
 


Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

  • Own the Sales & Operations Planning process.
  • Establish and maintain a structured planning cadence across the organization.
  • Facilitate Weekly Supply Reviews to monitor execution, inventory position, supplier performance, and operational risks.
  • Facilitate Monthly Executive S&OP Reviews to align demand, supply, inventory, and financial objectives.
  • Facilitate Quarterly Strategic Business Reviews focused on long-term capacity, inventory strategy, supplier readiness, and growth initiatives.
  • Ensure cross-functional participation and accountability throughout the planning process.
  • Drive decision-making across service level, inventory, speed, cost, and capacity tradeoffs.
  • Escalate critical business decisions to leadership when required.
  • Ensure the organization operates against a single approved Plan of Record.


Demand Planning Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Demand Planning function.
  • Ensure forecasting methodologies support business requirements.
  • Improve forecast accuracy and forecast accountability.
  • Establish planning standards and reporting requirements.
  • Support inventory and service level objectives through improved forecast quality.


Supply Planning Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Supply Planning function.
  • Ensure supply plans support demand requirements, inventory objectives, and long-range capacity planning requirements.
  • Review inventory strategies and replenishment policies.
  • Monitor inventory health and working capital performance.
  • Ensure supply plans support business growth and operational objectives.


Supplier Operations Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to Supplier Operations.
  • Ensure supplier performance management systems are effective.
  • Review supplier capacity, lead times, production execution, and operational risks.
  • Support supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure supplier performance supports company objectives.


Strategic Sourcing Leadership

  • Establish sourcing strategies that support growth, cost management, risk reduction, and supplier diversification.
  • Review supplier selection and supplier development initiatives.
  • Support major supplier negotiations and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure sourcing decisions support long-term business objectives.
  • Drive supplier network development and scalability.


Compliance Leadership

  • Ensure compliance requirements are integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, product compliance, retailer compliance, testing, and certification programs.
  • Monitor compliance risks across all markets and sales channels.
  • Ensure products meet applicable regulatory requirements before commercialization.
  • Support international expansion efforts through compliance oversight.


Inventory & Working Capital Management

  • Establish inventory strategies aligned with service level objectives.
  • Balance inventory investment with product availability requirements.
  • Monitor inventory turns, excess inventory, and stock-out risks.
  • Drive initiatives that improve inventory efficiency and cash flow.
  • Ensure inventory supports growth without creating unnecessary risk.


Scenario Planning & Business Readiness

  • Lead scenario planning activities across demand, supply, inventory, and capacity.
  • Develop Base, Bull, and Bear business scenarios to support decision-making.
  • Evaluate supply, inventory, capacity, sourcing, and operational risks under multiple business conditions.
  • Develop mitigation and contingency plans for potential demand volatility.
  • Ensure readiness plans exist for major product launches, promotional events, seasonal demand spikes, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Support executive leadership through data-driven scenario analysis and recommendations.
 

Risk Management

  • Identify and evaluate supply chain risks.
  • Develop mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Monitor supplier, inventory, compliance, sourcing, and operational risks.
  • Lead business continuity planning initiatives.
  • Support executive leadership during major supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure mitigation plans are established and maintained for all critical supply chain risks identified through scenario planning activities.


Organizational Development

  • Build and develop a high-performing supply chain organization.
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop talent.
  • Promote accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop future leaders within the organization.


Systems, Data & Process Improvement

  • Improve supply chain visibility through reporting and analytics.
  • Support implementation and optimization of planning and operational systems.
  • Develop KPIs and performance management frameworks.
  • Establish scalable processes and operating procedures.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.


Executive & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Executive Leadership on business planning and growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Finance on inventory, forecasting, budgeting, and working capital management.
  • Partner with Product Development on product launches and commercialization.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales on demand planning and growth initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary supply chain advisor to company leadership.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in:
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Demand Planning
    • Supply Planning
    • Sourcing & Procurement

    • Inventory Management
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing multiple supply chain functions.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Experience implementing S&OP and/or IBP processes.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience in consumer products, sporting goods, apparel, accessories, manufacturing, retail, or e-commerce environments.
  • Experience supporting rapid-growth organizations.
  • Experience managing international sourcing and supplier networks.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation initiatives.
  • APICS CSCP, CPIM, CLTD, or equivalent supply chain certifications.
  • Experience working with private equity-backed or founder-led businesses.
